Studio Classes

Spine Corrector

When you walk into a Pilates studio one of the first things you'll see is strange looking equipment with ropes and springs and fluffies, and you might wonder if perhaps you made a mistake...

The Cadillac, the reformer and the chair all make use of springs. Why, because springs very closely resemble the way the body's muscles move in real life, developing tension while simultaneously lenghtening, encouraging eccentric muscle activity. If you were to replace the springs with weights, Pilates equipment would be no more beneficial than some other equipment found in a gym.
Using the springs with exercise means no strain on the joint at the beginning of the movement but offer a larger amount of resistance at the end of the range of movement. Springs can provide resistance in one direction and assistance in the opposite direction. The springs have different strengths so adjustments can be easily made.

During the first studio session, which is always a one on one, we talk about your needs and wishes, have a look at your postural alignment and movement and on the basis of that we create a personal programme. Ideally you would have at least 3 one on one sessions, so that you understand and can apply the Pilates principles so that you can work on your own, but we realise that this is not always financially viable. To be able to still give you as much guidance and adjustment as necessary, there is a maximum of two participants per class.

We specialise in teaching exercises to people with neurological conditions e.g. Parkinson's Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke recovery and Multiple Sclerosis.
