Summer Christmas break

The studio will be closed for the annual summer christmas break from December 23rd to January 8th, 2024.

I apologize for the fact that my only posts seem to be when the studio is open or closed; social media is not my strong point. Talking on the other hand I do quite well so if  you want to know more about the studio and the work that I do, or just want to talk to me, just ring me:-).

For now, have a wonderful summer break and a peaceful 2024.

2023. We're still operating!

It's 2023 and we're still operating. I am just bad at social media and then, because I don't use it a lot, I forget my password and have to go through so many hoops to retrieve it, that by then I just can't be bothered anymore. I'd rather spend my time on teaching or learning about the human body and brain.

The Studio will open again for private/one-on-one classes from Wednesday January 18th and  mat-classes start on Monday January 30th.

And now I'll dive back into my books. See you in a couple of weeks!

Christmas break 2020

The longest day has just been and with that almost the longest feeling year. It's time for a well-deserved break. The studio will be closed until January 17th, 2021. We will open for private clients and run some drop-in mat-classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, both evenings at 6.30 and 7.3pm, provided there is enough demand. As they are drop-in classes and space is limited, please let me know when you want to 'drop-in', so I can keep track. The classes are $15 each, payable on the night. The normal class-schedule will resume on Tuesday February 9th, 2021.

Thank you so much for being with me this year and I do hope to see all of you again in the new year. For now, have an amazing Christmas break, be safe on the roads and don't forget to do your 100's!

Term 1 - 2020

The school holidays are coming to an end which means the Pilates mat-classes are starting again.

This term is a 'bit messy' as there will only be 3 weeks - starting Monday February 3rd. I will then be away for 5 weeks, starting again on March 30th for another 2 weeks until the Easter/school holiday break from April 10. Things should be back to normal from the start of term 2, on April 28th.

For term 1, the Monday 7.30pm, Wednesday 9am, 6.30pm and 7.30pm classes will definitely run. The other classes will not start until term 2.

Private -group- classes and fascial manipulation are available this term. Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion :-). I promise to make it up to you in term 2!

Classes resuming on March 4th, 2019

Just checked in, and getting really excited now about my adventures in Europe. I'm glad to go to colder weather, but I wouldn't mind if the temperature in Swedish Lapland gets a bit higher than the current -28C! I won't be checking my emails while I'm away, but promise to get back to you as soon as I am behind my desk again on March 2nd. Or 3rd if totally jet-lagged:-).

Classes will start on Monday March 4th. The mat timetable so far - could change if not enough or too many people- :

Monday 7.30-8.30pm

Tuesday 9.15-10.15

Wednesday 9.15-10.15 + 6.30-730 (men only) + 7.30 - 8.30 (this one is full already)

Thursday 7.30-8.30.

If you have a group and would like you a timeslot not mentioned here, contact me when I'm back.

Privates and Fascial Manipulations by appointment only.

See you in March!

Goodbye 2018

Another year gone. Thank you to all of you who made me realise how much I enjoy my work. I hope to see you all back in 2019.

The studio is now closed until Monday January 14th when it will open for private classes and fascial manipulations. I have had some requests from keen 'matters' to run a couple of mat-classes between 14 January and February 8th (when I leave for Europe). I am keen to run some classes on either Mondays at 7.30pm or Wednesdays 7.30pm, but experience has taught me that most people are very keen before Christmas; after Christmas I have to compete with the weather and spontaneous days away. Therefore I will only run the classes if people pay me beforehand.  For Mondays it would be from 14 Jan - 4 Feb with January 21st Wellington anniversary day, so just 3 classes.  Same for Wednesday  Jan 16th-30th. Let me know how many and which ones you can make and you only pay for these.

The studio will be closed from Februay 8th and reopens on Monday March 4th. I am planning to have the same mat-class hours: Monday 7.30 -8.30pm, Tuesday?wednesday 9.15-10.15am, 6.30 - 7.30pm, 7.30-8.30pm, thursday 6.30- 7.30pm 7.30-8.30pm. Other hours on request.

For now, enjoy your family and time off.

Classes 2018

Happy 2018!

It took me a while to get out of my lazy 'make the most of this weather' mode, but all good things come to an end, so that another good thing can happen. And my next 'good thing' is my trip to Leipzig from February 1st - 22nd, where my anatomist friend will teach me how to -pre- dissect a human cadaver, allowing me to get a deeper, better understanding of the human body and specifically of the fascia. Exciting times.

For you this means that the group classes will not start until February 26th. I am planning to run classes on Monday at 7.30pm, Tuesday 9.15am, 6.30pm and 7.30pm, Wednesday 9.15am, 6.30pm, 7.30pm and Thursday 6.30pm. I am available for private classes (private group or individual) and Fascial Manipulation from Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday between 10.30am - 5pm.

If you want to know more about the classes or fascial manipulation please email me: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Thanks!

Fascia facts

Was challenged to read a fascia article every day until november 2018. To keep myself 'honest' I decided to summarize every article and make a weekly post with little 'fascia facts'. But I have since discovered that reading isn't the hard part, it's the summarizing. I have therefore decided to only do 3 articles per week until I get better at it.

The first 3 articles, including a definition of fascia:

1. Definition: A fascia indicates a sheath, a sheet or any number of other dissectable aggregations of connective tussue that forms beneath the skin to attach, enclose, separate muscles and other internal organs. The fascial system is a bodyise network of interacting tissues, incorporating force-transmission, sensory functions and wound regulation.

2. Myofascial pain in nickel-sensitive women exposed to nickel alloy underwires in brassieres.

A retrospective chart review of 57 consecutive new female patients at least 14 years of age, treated at a New Jersey, USA,  myofascial pain practice, showed that in 24 of the 57 women, fascial pulls were tracked from the site of pain to palpable and painful adhesions deep to underwire brassiere support wires.

Conclusion: wear nickel-free and/or underwire free brassieres.

3. Does subtle isometric contraction engage the fascial tissues and can this be help chronic pain. The human body is a tensegrity structure made of compressible and non-compressible parts, so if we stretch our fascia in one area, we must therefore compressing it somewhere else.

Conclusion: stretching and/or isometric contraction (compression) can help release chronic pain.
